Religious
Affiliation
Sonrise Christian High School,
as the name implies, is a Christian school. We
are affiliated with the Church of Christ. In
fact, 95% of our funding comes from brothers and
sisters of the Church of Christ from across the
U.S. Sonrise Christian High School affirms that
God is the source of all knowledge, truth and
virtue and it is to Him that we must look as we
work to educate the total individual.
George Pepperdine, the first
president of Pepperdine University, was quoted
to have said in his founder's address given on
September 21, 1937, "If we educate a man's mind
and improve his intellect with all the
scientific knowledge discovered and do not
educate the heart by bringing it under the
influence of God's word, that man is dangerous.
An educated man without religion is like a ship
with out a rudder or a powerful automobile
without a steering gear."
We believe that as we educate
the minds of our students and help them achieve
greater heights; we must also educate their
heart and bring it under the influence of God.
In light of this, we have very practical
spiritual programs designed to help our students
come to know God better and to build a stronger
relationship with him.
Sunday Morning
Worship
Every Sunday there is a worship service
for all students from 7:00am through 10:00am. We
study the Bible, we take communion, we listen to
a word of exultation and we sing, pray and just
worship our God.
Morning Worship
On Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings
we meet for morning convocation. It is a time of
praise and exultation and it is a great way to
start our day.
Dorm Devotionals
On Tuesday and Thursday mornings,
students meet in their various dorms for dorm
devotionals. It is usually student led.
It is important we understand
that Sonrise Christian High School does not
discriminate against any student because of
their religious beliefs. We are open to any
student irrespective of the student's religious
background.
We have Church of Christ, Catholics, Moslems and
students from many other denominational
backgrounds at Sonrise.
